History of Beeches
In the late 19thC to early 20thC, from 1896 – 1926, it was the home of Alfred Ingoldby, a Justice of the Peace and manager of the Capital and Counties Bank on Mercer Row. This bank was merged in 1918 to become part of Lloyds which is still situated on the same site in Mercer Row today. At this time the house was simply known as South Street House and has also been known as Elm Street House.
This picture at the turn of the 20thC shows it in the background and it doesn’t appear to have changed too much, on the outside at least, since then.
The Lill family also lived in the house. Michael Lill lived with his wife and two daughters Cherry and Judith. Michel family owned the furniture store in Louth.
This is Michael Lill, also known as Mickey, stood where the stables were situated and where the stable doors still are to this day.
James Lill was the father of Michael Lill who ran the drapery and furnishing shop on Eastgate, Louth
